Today is a personal day for me, a day someone I loved dearly died under truly terrible circumstances in 1996.
So I'm not going to be writing about politics or the world or anything. It's a day to take care of myself and maybe light my mother-in-law's candle, in memory of the person I loved. It's so hard to believe it's been 24 years.
Yesterday and part of today, a major snowstorm gave Stephanie and most other teachers a day off — and all the kids in our area ideal sledding conditions.
By "our area" I don't mean just my own town but a big swath of the Northeast and midwest. Record amounts of snow fell in upstate New York and Pennsylvania starting yesterday around 3 p.m. Last night authorities issued advisories to more than 60 million people.
But the sun was shining today by noon, and our dogs had a blast running around in it while we shoveled. Even the shoveling was fun. We got our exercise for the day, waved to neighbors, came in and ate grilled cheese sandwiches.
Now I'm going to work on our Christmas cards.
So today is a day of remembrance, but still a good day.
